Presumptive participles are non-finite verb forms which appear in the Tadik idiom in the syntax of verbs in the presumptive. They are generated by attaching the Suffix /-i/ to perfect participles, always using the epenthesis /g/ (see 20•۲•c.).
Presumptive participles have the following applications in the Tajik idiom:
- As constituents of verb phrases in the presumptive (see 14•۴.)
- By means of adjectivization of transitive presumptive participles, one can generate nomina patientis: /koʃtægi/ کشتگی, /neveʃtægi/ نوشتگی, /boridægi/ بریدگی
مکتوبِ دیروز نوشتگیِ /neveʃtægi/ من در بالایِ میزست.
- Intransitive presumptive participles can be adjectivized to perfect nomen agentis: /ræftægi/ رفتگی, /mordægi/ مردگی, /neʃæstægi/ نشستگی
آدمِ به خانهیِ ما آمدگی /ɒmædægi/ از دوستم مکتوبه آورد.
- As simple nomen agentis, with the proclitical adverb /meː-/ (see 4•۲•a•a.):
دخترِ در این جا کار میکردگی /meː-kærdægi/ کاتبهیِ رییسِ دانشگاهست.
- Progressive nomina agentis can be generated with the pattern [AP[VP[Vperfect participle] [Vpresumptive participle /istɒdægi/]]] (see 4•۲•a•c.):
ماشینِ رفته ایستادگی /ræftæ istɒdægi/ ناگهان از حرکت باز ماند.
